A Work in Progress

I just wanted to upload a few random pics of myself:

Don’t let that one pic fool you; I am SUCH a jeans and t-shirt girl. I always have been, and I honestly think I always will be. With that being said, I made the decision to upgrade my style now that I’m older (almost the big 3-0!). I’m not trying to become a fashionista or anything, I just feel it’s time I stepped up my style game a little bit. It’s a work in progress, but I think I’m off to a fairly decent start. So, here’s to getting out of my comfort zone and trying new things.

Berry Green Smoothie

I am now an official fan of Green Smoothies! I've had one everyday since my Shrek Juice post. My only issue with the Green Monster Smoothie is that I'm not that big of a banana person. I want to incorporate a smoothie into my daily routine, and I just can't see myself having to drink one with banana in it every day. I also wanted an option without peanut butter. I figured that strawberries would work well to mask the spinach taste and also quell my sweet tooth when a craving hits. I searched all over the web for a strawberry/spinach recipe that was simple yet tasty, but they all called for bananas. I gave up after awhile, and just decided to wing it. Here's what I came up with:

1 cup sliced strawberries
1/2 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
1/2 cup fat free milk
Spinach
1 packet of Truvia

Throw everything in the blender (heaviest ingredients in the bottom, then fill with spinach) and blend until smooth.

It's just that simple, and it tastes delicious!

Shrek Juice

Sometimes inspiration comes from the weirdest places. For example, I play a game on my iPhone called Bakery Story. It’s one of those games where you set up a restaurant, or bakery in this case, and make/sell different food/drink. Well, it just so happens that one of the latest recipes added was a green hued Leafy Smoothie. That got me to thinking about all of the green health smoothies that I’d seen people drink on TV and in magazines, and I figured that would be something I needed to try. I could definitely use more veggies in my diet, and who doesn’t like smoothies. The only problem would be finding one that actually tastes good…let the search begin. Over the last few days, I’ve done all types of internet searches looking for a smoothie that sounded nutritiously sound but also tasted good (proven by reviews). I found a bunch of “green” smoothies, but they had way more fruit than veggie in them. Finally, I found one over on Gina's Skinny Recipes that seemed to fit the bill :

Skinny Green Monster Smoothie

Off to the grocery store I went to pick up the ingredients. Making the smoothie couldn’t have been any easier, you basically just throw everything in the blender and let it go (I used fresh banana, Jif peanut butter, and fat free cow’s milk). You wouldn’t think it by looking at the bright green color, but you can’t taste even the teensiest bit of spinach in this. It truly tastes like bananas and peanut butter, yummy! I think I have found my go to morning drink. I actually had one this morning, and it was very filling. I usually have a midmorning snack to tide me over until lunch, but it wasn't needed today. I'm on my way to a healthier me! Do any of you have a green smoothie experience or a tasty recipe to share?

Influenster Love Vox Box (Flash Review)

I am an Influenster. What is an Influenster you might ask? Influensters are a "Community of trendsetters invited to share their lifestyles and show their influence to qualify for personalized product shipments, special rewards and exclusive deals from the brands they love. Members love testing the latest products, giving insightful feedback, and spreading the word on their favorite finds!". As an Influenster, I get to test different products (some before they even hit the shelves) through the VoxBox program. If you're interested in learning more visit their website here.

Here's a pic of the Valentine themed box aptly named the LoveVoxBox:

The box included the following products:

Ghirardelli - Gourmet Milk Chocolate Creamy Devotion Bar

Ghirardelli is known for producing some of the highest quality, most indulgent chocolate around, and this bar did not disappoint. It was smooth, creamy, and had just the right amount of cacao. The individual squares were perfectly portioned for a melt in your mouth moment that was meant to be savoured. The coupon included in the box was also greatly appreciated.

Gillette - Venus & Olay Razor

What do you get when you combine a Venus razor with Olay moisture? You get a smooth, close shave without the use of any extra products. I thoroughly enjoyed using this razor, especially since I didn't have to exfoliate and lather up with shaving products like I normally do with other razors. I have really dry skin on my legs, and shaving usually leaves my legs dry, tight, itchy, and begging to be slathered with body butter. I'll admit that I didn't expect much from this razor (especially since I've tried other self-lathering razors before with poor results), but I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't even need to moisturize after shaving. This is one product that I'll definitely continue to use.

Kiss Nail Dress - Ultimate Nail Fashion

Kiss Nail Dress-Fashion That Sticks
http://kissnaildress.com/

Kiss Nail Dress are nail stickers that come in solids and cute designs, and can be used on both your fingers and toes. I thought that these were perfect for those of us who want cute nails but are short on time (or aren't artistic enough to create cute designs). The stickers were really easy to apply: you just match the size to your nail, apply, and file of the excess with the little file provided. I actually applied mine within a few minutes while riding in the car. I must say that I was impressed with the staying power of the stickers. They lasted over a week, including four 12 hour shifts at a steel mill (I work with my hands and have to constantly wash them). I would definitely purchase these again if I needed a quick manicure for an event or just wanted something cute for everyday wear. Unfortunately, I never got around to testing them on my toes.

Stash - Herbal Tea Sampler

Stash Tea Herbal Tea Sampler

I really enjoyed  trying the different flavors in this tea sampler, especially the Mango Passionfruit and Acai Berry. The teas were of a high quality and made for a very fragrant, delicious cup. I liked that the teas were caffeine free, perfect for unwinding before bed without the worry of not being kept awake. I would recommend this brand of tea to anyone who enjoys flavored herbal teas. If you aren't able to find these locally, you should definitely check out the website, they have a wide range of flavors and reasonable shipping costs.

Truvia

Truvia Natural Sweetener
http://www.truvia.com/

I'm pretty sure most of you have heard of Truvia, especially with the current influx of all natural products being introduced into the market. Truvia is a no-calorie sweetener derived from stevia leaves. Since I'm a tried and true Splenda girl, this was my first time trying Truvia. I actually used it in the Stash Tea, and it was fairly sweet with only a slight hint of an after taste. I would possibly think about switching to Truvia just because it is all natural, but I'd have to test it in other products first.

*Disclaimer* I was given these products complimentary for testing purposes by the respective companies via Influenster.

I Heart Butterflies

I Heart Butterflies

Butterflies!! I absolutely love any and everything adorned with butterflies! I put this look together today while acclimating myself to Polyvore. I really like the versatility of this look, it could work for so many different occasions. A maxi similar to this one is definitely at the top of my Spring/Summer wardrobe list.

Wanna-be Runner

One of my fitness goals is to become a runner. I'm not talking about becoming one of those people that run marathons every other month, I just want to start running on a regular basis. Sounds simple enough, right? It probably would be if I wasn't so out of shape. So, here begins one of my journeys. I'm going to start small, just getting into the habit of hitting the treadmill every day. Over time, I want to build up my endurance and possibly run a few 5k's for different charitable causes. I'm hoping to use this blog as an accountability tool, and as a sort of virtual journal where I can track my progress, setbacks, and any other issues that come up during this particular journey. Today, I decided to gauge my endurance by banging out a mile on the treadmill. The number that you see on the display is that mile plus my cool down walk. What you don't see is my time, I actually finished the mile portion in 15:03. What I'm most proud of is the fact that I ran for a full 12 minutes after my 3 minute warm-up. My ultimate goal is to be able to run for a full 30 minutes without having to stop and walk. I don't think I'm off to that bad of a start. Now if only I can stick with it...

Here goes nothing...

Well, I've finally gotten around to starting a blog. I've been wanting to start one for some time now, but never really got around to taking that first step. I'm not out to become Blogger of the Year or anything, this blog doesn't even have a theme or anything like that. I just needed an outlet for all of the randomness that goes along with being me. I mean, how could I possibly devote a whole blog to just one topic when I enjoy so many different things (that don't necessarily "go together", so to speak). Anyway, I've at least taken that all important first step, so I guess we'll just have to see how this goes.
